Why sleep health is so important?

Sleep is a vital, often neglected, component of every person’s overall health and well-being. Sleep is important because it enables the body to repair and be fit and ready for another day. Sleep plays an important role in your physical health. For example, sleep is involved in healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke.

Did you know?

Sleep health is the core of our being. It restores and replenishes everything we put out during our day-to-day tasks. Unfortunately, it is human nature to try to do everything in one day and sleep is not a priority. As my career has evolved in sleep health, the one thing i have noticed is that no one realizes how important sleep actually is. Sleep architecture is made up of four stages of sleep, that lasts between 90-120minutes, and 5-6 cycles that make up quality sleep if there is nothing that disrupts the REM, which is the dream stage. Out of the four stages of sleep, stage three is restorative of the body and stage four is REM, which is the dream stage and also restorative of the mind. Obstructive sleep apnea, restless leg and insomnia are some of the factors that will disrupt the flow of sleep. In 2018, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute reported a study that was conducted on 852 participants. Out of the 852 participants, only five percent had been diagnosed by a physician of having obstructive Sleep apnea, Meaning ninety five percent of the participants were undiagnosed and untreated, Keep in mind, sleep apnea is associated with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, certain cancers, and other chronic health disorders. Witnessing individuals that have a diagnosis or symptoms, but fail to comply. Compels me to spring into action, and spread the word about sleep health. The knowledge that i spread empowers individuals to not only get involved, but to take control of their health!
